Bring the arcade action to your home with Double Dribble for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Released in 1987, this video game for the NES is a portable version of the 1986 arcade game release. The Nintendo Entertainment System version also adds features not seen in the arcade game. The gameplay of Double Dribble follows the same rules as the sport of basketball. Gamers will choose from one of four teams. The teams in this game are wholly original. You can play as either the Boston Frogs, New York Eagles, Chicago Ox, or Los Angeles Breakers. Each team has its strengths and weaknesses, though no single group is significantly better than any other. After selecting your team, your five players will take the court. The player who scores the most baskets at the end of the game is declared the winner.Everything you love about basketball is present in this game. There is no referee on the court, but players who break the rules will still receive a foul. Free throws are awarded to the opposing group when a foul occurs. Each player also has a hidden sweet spot on the court. From this position, your player is likely to get the ball in the hoop. Double Dribble for the NES offers some cool customization options. For example, gamers can set how long they want each quarter to last. There are four possible choices when selecting the time for the quarter length. Entire games can be over in a matter of minutes, or they can stretch out to almost half an hour. Likewise, there are three difficulty levels for the single-player mode. Set the difficulty on the easiest mode if you want to sink all your shots. Set it on the hardest one if you want a challenge akin to some of the toughest Nintendo games. The graphics in Double Dribble for the NES are colorful and vibrant. You'll have no problem telling which players are on a particular side. The game features no flickering or slowdown, so the action stays smooth for the entire playthrough. The sound quality is fantastic as well, as sounds come through with no distortion or static. Just wait until you hear the crowd cheer for you after nailing a slam dunk.Double Dribble for the NES was also one of the first video games to incorporate cut scenes. When your athlete dunks on an opposing athlete, a short video plays showcasing your spectacular jump. Double Dribble was also one of the first Nintendo games to use digitized speech. The title uses speech for calling out fouls, announcing the roster before the start of the game, and tossing up the first jump ball. This title was released before there was a rating system, but it is suitable for gamers of all ages.
