A newspaper reporter, Jennifer Paige (Janet Leigh), is investigating the Pittsburgh Pirates' losing streak. The team is led by manager Guffy McGovern (Paul Douglas), whose swearing and fighting hinder his team's progress. Meanwhile, an orphan named Bridget White (Donna Corcoran) has been praying for the team, and her pleas are answered by an angelic voice.
