Welcome to January, loyal Gameflip blog readers!
It might be the first month of an exciting new year, but if you thought video games were going to slow down at all, you're sorely mistaken. Just from the announced games for this month, it's clear that the insane string of ten-on-ten releases we dealt with in 2023 is set to continue.
Here at Gameflip, we're ready for more awesome gaming goodness.
That's why we came together around the office to outline a few of our most anticipated releases for this month, so our favorite gamers don't miss out on what might be your next favorite game. So let's not waste any more time — here are Gameflip's Most Anticipated Releases for January 2024.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Release date: January 18th
Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC
Leading the charge this month is the glorious return of Ubisoft's beloved action platformer franchise with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
However, rather than return to the 3rd-person parkouring action from the Sands of Time trilogy, The Lost Crown takes on a more classic PoP look with a 2.5D presentation and Metroidvania mechanics. The game developers at Ubisoft have called out Metroid Dread as an inspiration for this one, and that's enough to have us at Gameflip very, very excited.
The Last of Us Part II: Remastered
I know Pedro Pascal is here somewhere... (Image Source: PlayStation.com)
Release date: January 19th
Platforms: PS5
Before you have a chance to dig very far into Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Sony will have an enhanced remaster of one of their most popular games knocking on your door.
That's right, Ellie is back once more in The Last of Us Part II Remastered — a prettier version of one of the bleakest games ever made. It's not all shiny new graphics though, because TLoUIIR also packs a new game mode: No Return. The roguelike survival mode will have players fighting for their lives as waves of increasingly deadly humans and infected gun for them.
Ellie just can't catch a break, man.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
This isn't even the weirdest thing to happen in one of these games. (Image Source: infinitewealth.sega.com)
Release date: January 25th
Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC
Whenever there's a new Yakuza game coming out, you know exactly where to find us the first day after release...
Right in front of our TVs, controller in hand.
That's going to be the case on January 25th, when Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth finally drops. Following the events of Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, Infinite Wealth follows an old, grizzled Kazuma Kiryu (with a new hairdo!) and the franchise's new hero — Ichiban Kasuga. Together, they'll go on another unforgettable adventure full of all the drama and action you've come to expect from Sega's blockbuster franchise.
Oh, and there's an Animal Crossing-style management game set in Hawaii that acts as an entirely separate game within Infinite Wealth.
Ahhh, Yakuza, there's just nothing like it.
Tekken 8
THIS is the original Tiger King! (Image Source: Tekken.com)
Release date: January 26th
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
The most effed-up family drama in video games continues in the next chapter of the fantastic fighting game series — Tekken 8.
Kazuya is ready to wage war on the world after killing Heihachi, and Jin is out to stop his dad and avenge his grandpa after being reunited with his mom...
Ok, you probably aren't playing Tekken for the story, but that intense gameplay you love is making a big comeback as well. All of those punches and kicks have never looked better either, thanks to the Unreal Engine 5 pumping out those sweet, sweet graphics.
Oh, and Tekken holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-running video game storyline EVER, so that's pretty cool. Pay attention to the cutscenes, people!
Honorable Mentions
There are obviously WAY more games coming in January than the few we outlined up top, but we tried to whittle the full list down to the most important games you should be paying attention to. To that end, we also have a few honorable mentions to keep an eye on!
Bulletstorm VR
This guy will probably be a LOT scarier in VR. (Image Source: Bulletstorm.com)
Release date: January 18th
Platforms: PlayStation VR2, Quest, PC
If you managed to miss out on Bulletstorm back in 2011 or its re-releases in 2017 and 2019, then we have good news — the best way to experience this game is here!
Bulletstorm VR is the full Bulletstorm experience, built from the ground up for virtual reality platforms. If you happen to have a PSVR2 or a Meta Quest to play this on, it would definitely be worth checking out.
You can't spell VRiolence without VR!
Turnip Boy Robs a Bank
Turnip with a Gun must have been an alternate title for this. (Image Source: SnoozyKazoo.com)
Release date: January 18th
Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch
Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion was one of the most delightful, unexpected gems of 2021, and the tiny turnip is back for another legally questionable adventure.
This time, we have Turnip Boy Robs a Bank, and that's exactly what he's going to do. Joining the ranks of the dastardly Pickled Gang, Turnip Boy will use guns and gadgets purchased on the dark web to fight anything holding him back from lining his pockets with loot.
...it's a twin-stick shooter full of vegetables, just play it.
Howl
Werewolves! (Image Source: Howl-Game.com)
Release date: January 23rd
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S
One of the most intriguing releases this month is called Howl — a turn-based tactical game with a medieval folktale twist.
In it, you'll play a deaf heroine who has to navigate the dangers of a world plagued by howling beasts. She's immune to the curse, but can she find a cure?
Beats me, but this one looks really, really cool. Definitely mark your calendar for this one.
